MBA Application Timeline How to Get Accepted in 2020

It’s time for my annual harangue/plea/rant. If you are planning to apply Round 1 in the fall, but have not yet thought about why you want an MBA, taken the GMAT/GRE, researched schools, or evaluated your qualifications, please please please keep reading. And then get started! I would like to help you avoid the harried hassle and diminished application quality that accompany rushed applications. Just to be clear: Rushed applications are started just a few weeks before the deadlines by applicants who cogitate, procrastinate, or just start thinking about applying late in the cycle. Instead follow the example of those many applicants who start their applications months before applying and who work steadily to complete them by their deadlines. Those people are getting started now. [Click here for your copy of the Smart MBA Application Timeline] My 25+ years in this business tell me that those who start the application process 9-12 months before they apply: Get into more and â€Å"better† schools. Are more likely to get scholarships. Are more prepared for b-school when they arrive on campus. They simply do better in the MBA application process than those who wait until the eleventh hour (or even the tenth). Those better prepared applicants – they are your real competition. And the best way to compete is to start the race now. Not tomorrow. Not next week or month or quarter. Now. hbspt.cta.load(58291, '9bb31be0-3cf6-45f0-be3d-3791cc1bd9bd', {}); Start your GMAT or GRE prep Once you determine that you have a goal that requires an MBA, start preparing for the GMAT or GRE. Don’t wait for the summer or â€Å"later.† Your test score is a critical element in your application. Choosing schools without knowing that number leads to all kinds of aggravation, stress, and unpleasant surprises. Every year I get calls, emails, and comments from applicants who bombed the GRE or the GMAT and don’t have time to retake it. They are torn between applying to the programs they really want to attend but where their test score (and perhaps other elements) are less than competitive, and applying to programs where they are competitive but where they aren’t dying to go. It’s a dilemma you can avoid by allowing yourself the time to retake the GRE/GMAT, if necessary. Lower than expected test scores can throw a major monkey wrench in your plans when you take the test within two months of your target deadlines. However, if you bomb it in the spring, you will still have months to prepare again and retake the exam before the deadlines – even the first round deadlines. Stay on top of deadlines with our MBA Admissions Calendar! [Click here  to add the calendar to your Google calendar; or here to add the calendar to another app.] Where to apply: Dartboard vs. intent And then there are the applicants who don’t understand the importance of fit in the application process. They just know they want an MBA from a Top X-ranked school. They may or may not have a specific goal or reason to pursue an MBA, and they really could just as easily be throwing darts at a list of schools to determine where to invest their time and money. Or maybe they just started too late to do the research and reflection that they could’ve and should’ve done had they started earlier. Like now. In any case, this superficial approach could lead to rejection, a very expensive mistake, or a less-than-optimal MBA experience. Apply purposefully to specific programs that support your goals and at which you are competitive. Don’t apply to rankings. You won’t attend rankings. You’ll attend a graduate business school. Writing is rewriting requires time Some of you know why you want an MBA, have good reasons for selecting the school you will apply to, and will get the GMAT or GRE score that you want the first time you take the exam; so you may be feeling a little smug. Okay, so you got the first part of the application process done. Fantastic! However, if you slack off and wait for the last minute to complete your applications, you will end up hurrying the writing process for your essays, short answer questions, and resume, or the practice/filming process for video options on your application. Either way, you will end up rushing. Bad idea. And bad ideas lead to bad results. Writing – whether long essays, short essays, scripts, activity descriptions, or resumes – benefits from time. Temporal distance between revisions improves critical analysis and editing. In contrast, scrambling to slap something together leads to sloppy thinking and writing. Getting the GMAT or GRE out of the way, thinking profoundly about fit, and starting your essays early are all important steps, but you can’t just assume that ticking items off your checklist will get you into b-school. You need something more comprehensive than that†¦ A holistic, purposeful approach to the MBA application process New Year’s Resolution: Proceed purposefully, methodically, and thoughtfully so that you submit a superior MBA application to the most appropriate schools at the most desirable deadline for you. World War I The Pinnacle Of Violence - 924 Words

W orld War 2: the pinnacle of violence in the mid-20th century. More than 60 million people were killed, almost half of them civilians (Gregory Frumkin, 2001). Australia’s involvement in the war was heavily influential in the overall success of the Allies (U.S., Britain, France, USSR, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, Denmark, Greece, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, South Africa, and Yugoslavia) (Pearson Education 2007). The Australian and American alliance in war can be traced back to the beginning of World War I, when both nations were part of the Allied alliance, and thus had military connections. At a glance, it appears that the alliance between the two countries was strengthened during WW2, however it was in fact, the†¦show more content†¦However, it did not explicitly state that either nation had a responsibility to supply aid, as a consultation was all that was necessary (Article III ANZUS treaty document 1951). Society in Australia viewed it as an oppo rtunity for the nations to amend the previous military conflict, creating a stronger bond between the two countries, and thus a lower security threat in Australia (May Hill’s diary, 1942). Post-signing of the document, military conflict began to subside, however it still continues on a reduced degree to this day. The tension between the US military and Australian forces reached a historically climatic high when a brutal brawl broke out on Melbourne streets on the night of November 26, 1942. Increased tension had been mounting between the two nations’ military forces for months prior to the incident, with Australian troops developing a astringent resentment of the American’s higher pay rates, increased access to goods and services, and most significantly, the Aussies’ women. The Australian troops adopted the nickname ‘yankee’ when discussing the Americans, referring in an offensive way to their culture and historical backgrounds. Although the military stress continued throughout the entirety of the Second World War, society and the Government saw that the loss of the alliance with the Americans would be fatal, and result in the inevitable invasion of Axis forces. Media and propaganda of the time period enforced the common political

Leadership and Responsibilities Nelson Mandela

Question: Discuss about theLeadership and Responsibilities for Nelson Mandela. Answer: What makes one a leader? Is leadership innate or created over time? These questions are among those which have given people a lot to think about. Both factors can influence the leadership qualities of a person (Gujral, 2013). For instance, through education, individuals gain more skills on management of resources. Proper management is what good leadership is all about. How many people in the world can fall in the list of good leaders? The list is endless. People like Malcolm X of the US, Mother Teresa of India, and Nelson Mandela of South Africa among several others. A good leader always takes responsibility (Krass, 2017). Nelson Mandela was a great leader who is well-known in the world history. He was a politician, anti-apartheid revolutionary and later the President of the South African Republic from 1994 to 1999 (Hollingsworth, 2013). Nelson Mandela was able to end the apartheid system in South Africa. Nevertheless, he set an example for the rest of the world. People are all equal regardless of their race, gender, age or position in the government. The apartheid system began when South Africa was under the colonial government. There was discrimination of people by race (skin complexion) to the extent whereby the blacks were made slaves in their country. As a courageous leader, Mandela rose to form groups which would fight for human rights. There are several leadership qualities which can be attributed to Mandela. They include: Mandela was positive thinking, he always thought of how to improve the lives of all the communities living in South Africa. Mandela was a visionary leader. He was able to see the big picture of South Africa, the suffering the community went through and the way forward to solve all the challenges. A good leader should be able to identify the needs of his people and how each one of them can be helped to achieve what they desire. Nelson had a commanding He was a brave leader who showed up whenever his people needed him. He never liked violence and easily worn enemies with a smile. He was focused on his mission and vision. He never stopped the fight till he achieved what he wanted. He had hope. Good leaders should have hope in whatever they do. A leader with no hope is a failure. Determination was also part of his strategy leading South Africa to independence in 1994. A determined leader believes in himself. Believing in oneself leads to improvement of self-esteem. A person with self-esteem will always mind the lives of others. There are many things which can be learned about leadership from Nelson Mandela. Individuals can tell the difference between a leader and a ruler. Mandela was a leader. A leader always thinks about other people, unlike a ruler. To be a significant leader for your people, you need determination. One should be ready to take responsibility as there are several challenges that leaders face. For instance, Mandela was imprisoned. There are times leaders face hardships. A good leader will take advantage of the challenges to strengthen his team to carry on fighting for what they believe. From Nelson, leaders learn the significant of being focused on their project. Be it business, political or sports; focus is the most important. For instance, when students are in group discussions, those with leaders without focus end up failing to achieve their main objective. A less focused individual is easily swayed aside by others. Making decisions become a big problem for such a leader. Exercising patience is also another thing which leaders learn from Mandela. Things do not come as fast as most will expect. Nevertheless, the easy way of doing things is not always the best way. Strategies need to be involved for a leader to make a decision (Strategy and leadership, 2016). In the strategy, consultancy is essential. A team leader should form a group to help in running the management. Two heads are better than one, diverse opinions from several individuals lead to the development of a sound decision. The nature of the influence of a leader depends on a number of factors like for instance, how well does the society know the leader? Nelson was able to influence almost all people from South Africa to fight in ending the apartheid system (Sadler, 2013). This set a good example for most leaders in the African Continent who decided to put their efforts together to end racism. In fact, the whole world was moved by the struggle of this man. His strength, voice, humbleness and peaceful way of handling disputes motivated many people. From that, we learn that peaceful negotiations can also solve issues, violence is not the only way of approaching serious issues in the society. The presence of a leader when addressing matters affecting the community is important. People do not need virtual leaders. They need leaders they can see, leaders who can make decisions on their behalf. Nevertheless, brave individuals who are ready, to tell the truth, call a spade a spade and not a spoon. If things are bad, they are bad, no need to hide. A leader who brings things into the light of many often gets the support of the majority. Having a majority by your side is an assurance of success. Personal traits contribute much in making a good leader. From the way you handle things, the way you conduct your businesses and the way you interact with people, it is easy to tell the kind of leader you are. References Gujral, G. S. (2013).
